regenerative tourism 101

The Regenerative Tourism 101 series is designed to raise awareness about our work at Terraformers. We will be visiting communities and witnessing firsthand the role culture plays in ecosystem health.  In this series, we explore the role tourism has in advancing culture and empowering local communities to become better guardians of the planet. Our programme duration ranges from 5 days to 10 days depending on location and it is currently conducted in Vietnam and Mongolia.

TESTIMONIALS

"Mongolia was a country that I previously really did not know much about. Being able to discover its vast and beautiful nature, rich history, and cultural heritage through the Terraformers retreat was eye-opening and a truly unforgettable experience overall. The itinerary was thoughtfully crafted to include different places that provided the opportunity to not only have fun, but also to learn about Mongolia’s tourism and society (though fun and learning are not mutually exclusive!). The Terraformers curriculum was not didactic and dull; instead it was built from the experiential activities that we had, allowing us to observe, ask many questions, and reflect.

This was the first time I travelled in a group of complete strangers; I’m thankful that the group gelled well, making every day enjoyable, and also giving rise to organic discussions about being a responsible traveller/consumer. With the environmental and social challenges in today’s world, I think it’s important for us to be more mindful and caring in the way that we travel; and Terraformers is a great avenue to help us along with that."

"I had ambivalence on signing up with Terraformers but soon realised that my concerns were unfounded owing to Shuen's patience in attending to my enquires through the whole process.

Much considerations were taken to ensure that there were balance of travellers' experiences and staying true to the company's belief and values in regenerative tourism.

It was a good opportunity to make new friends while learning a new culture and being a more responsible traveller.  I had thoroughly enjoyed the experiential activities planned while immersing in the beauty of the vast landscape of Mongolia. It was one of the best decisions to travel with Terraformers."
